Continuing Support After the End of the Program
The Hitachi Research Grant was announced in 1985 by the Hitachi Scholarship Foundation to subsidize joint research projects in the natural sciences, humanities and social sciences in order to encourage and motivate collaborative research activities between university faculty in Southeast Asia and their Japanese counterparts.
Since 1988, the focus of this program has been shifted to the support of various research-related activities by ex-fellows from the Hitachi Scholarship or other programs. The Hitachi Scholarship Foundation has increasingly encouraged the advancement of academic development in research collaboration among university faculty in Southeast Asia and Japan.
Explanatory and supporting letters by both the home university and the Japanese university are required to be attached to requests for grant/support to ensure that requests will not be made for personal or private purposes.
