In April 2000 Hitachi combined the Youth Rehabilitation and Welfare Center, which was established to help prevent juvenile delinquency, with the Correctional Services Foundation, which was established to help prison inmates and reform school students re-enter society, to form the Hitachi Mirai Foundation.
The pace of industrial and economic growth in Japan has been remarkable, and the nation enjoys an affluent consumer lifestyle. But these achievements have been accompanied by severe changes in the social fabric, such as a gradual erosion of community ties and family relationships. But these achievements have been accompanied by severe changes in the social fabric, such as a gradual erosion of community ties and family relationships. In this environment, growing numbers of young people still in the midst of mental and physical development are losing their way and turning to crime and delinquency. Juvenile delinquency has now become an extremely serious social problem. Services aimed at preventing crime, as well as correctional educational activities to rehabilitate juvenile offenders, are becoming increasingly important.
The Hitachi Mirai Foundation is engaged in a wide range of activities from a private, independent standpoint. These activities include the prevention of juvenile crime and delinquency, the enhancement of correctional and rehabilitation services for prison inmates and reform school students, and the promotion of social understanding and cooperation on issues involving young people.
The Hitachi Group is working to enrich people’s lives and to make the world a better place, as symbolized by our corporate motto, "Inspire the Next." The activities of the Hitachi Mirai Foundation are a part of these broad-based endeavors of the Hitachi Group.
