The Kurata Memorial Hitachi Science and Technology Foundation, which was named after Chikara Kurata who was the 2nd president of Hitachi, Ltd., was established in 1967 to contribute to progress in science and technology throughout Japan.
Now, Japan has matured to become one of the major world leaders in science and technology and is expected to play an important role in global development through its advanced expertise in these disciplines. However, Japan’s contribution to science and technology has mainly been in the application of scientific or technological improvements. Japan also needs to contribute to progress in fundamental science toward which further efforts should be devoted.
We will continue to support young scientists in their creative R&D work with fresh ideas in fundamental research in addition to the development of excellent application and production technologies. Our hope is to contribute to making the lives of Japanese people better as well as expanding global development.
